Jackson State University’s Interdisciplinary Alcohol and Drug Studies Center is the 2024 National Service Award Recipient from the National Highway Traffic 安全 Administration (NHTSA)!
- The Interdisciplinary Alcohol and Drug Studies Center received a Public Service Award for Alcohol Prevention and Safe Driving at the 2024 Lifesavers Conference on Roadway 安全 for successfully reaching 10,000 young people across the Magnolia state.
- The LifeSavers Conference is recognized as the largest gathering of traffic safety professionals in the United States and 2024 was IADSC’s first debut at the conference.
Major Purpose and Programs
The Interdisciplinary Alcohol and Drug Studies Center was established in 1974 as a coordinative interdisciplinary unit at Jackson State University for the purpose of providing counseling, 教育, and training in the field of alcohol and drugs. It is one of the oldest free standing programs in the State of Mississippi and has been recognized as a model program for other HBCUs across the United States. The Center has received many awards for its community service and prevention efforts and is a trail blazer in the field of substance abuse prevention.
Over the years the Center has served as a National Radar Center for the Southern District, a model program for other HBCU’s across the United States and one of the major training sites for the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. It is the only program located on a university or college campus of its kind that has received ongoing funding from one agency for over forty years.
Its ongoing collaborative efforts with students and other JSU Departments across campus has earned the title as being an innovative and engaging program that focuses on the health and wellness of our campus community.
